Special Taxing District Rate Comparison

Included in the two attachments below, you will be able to compare the tax rates and taxes paid on an average home or business in Nassau County for 2006 and 2007. Class One properties are residential and Class Four are commercial. There are tabs in the spreadsheet to view both classes. As you will see, the tax rates and amounts paid vary widely from district to district, despite the fact that service levels between districts are not significantly different.

By consolidating special taxing districts into larger groups, there will be fewer variances in tax rates and taxes paid. Additional efficiencies will be gained through the reduction of "back office" administrative layers (e.g HR, Accounts Payable, Procurement, etc.) which add little to no value in the delivery of the services. Procurement effciencies will be gained by aggregating and leveraging the purchase volumes the spcial taxing districts. It stands to reason that purchasing 100 garbage trucks at a time will be more cost effective than buying twenty.
